When Graham Jenkins, Richard’s brother is interviewed in 1992 about Richard’s mentor and adopted father Philip Burton, he doesn’t just speak about Hollywood fame, he speaks about family, mentorship and identity.

Graham was only 15 when Richard changed his name from Jenkins to Burton, and at the time he was upset, but then he was pleased that he did so, it’s a more swank name than Jenkins, he says. And he remembers Richard’s favourite quip, “Philip didn’t adopt me – I adopted him”
