Samhain marks the end of the harvest and the beginning of winter in Gaelic tradition. Over time, many customs associated with this season became part of the Halloween traditions we know today.

In this video, we’ll explore the history and meaning of Samhain, how Gaelic traditions changed over time, and some of the ways modern witches celebrate the season.

We’ll look at:

🌙 When Samhain is traditionally observed

🔥 The connection between Samhain, the harvest, and the beginning of winter

🍂 How some Samhain traditions influenced Halloween

🎃 The history of turnip lanterns and the pumpkin jack-o'-lantern

🕯️ Remembrance and the people we have lost

🍎 The modern tradition of the dumb supper

🌿 Samhain herbs, crystals, colours, and altar ideas

🔮 Traditional and modern forms of divination

🪞 Scrying and working with a dark bowl of water

Samhain can be a quiet evening of remembrance, a gathering with friends, a night of divination, or a chance to notice the changing season.

🎬 About This Video

The visuals in this video were created with the help of AI, but the video itself was very much a human creative project. I planned the scenes, developed the visual direction, created and selected the individual clips, edited everything together, and paired it with the narration and music. Our little black-cat familiar even became a recurring character along the way. 🖤
