During World War II a British engineer proposed building an enormous aircraft carrier out of pykrete — a composite of ice and wood pulp reportedly tougher than concrete and resistant to attack — and the idea was taken seriously enough to reach Winston Churchill before the project was eventually abandoned, and Adam and Jamie flew back to Alaska to find out whether the legend of this material held up, with Jamie developing his own enhanced super pykrete formula before the team built a full-scale boat out of the material and took it out onto open water to find out whether something made of frozen sawdust could actually perform like a real vessel under real conditions.
