The Trump administration is keeping the spotlight on what it sees as illegal voting in U.S. elections. While the cases are not widespread, top White House officials say they demonstrate that there are people in this country who attempt to vote illegally

Among the 16 people recently arrested for illegal voting or other election-related crimes, nine were from the state of Texas.

Mexican national Monica Carzoli, 46, a lawful permanent resident, admitted to registering to vote and then voting in the November 2024 election. Carzoli was arrested on criminal charges this week in Del Rio, Texas.

During a September 15 news conference, Ryan Raybould, a U.S. Attorney with the Northern District of Texas, said, "Anyone who is not a citizen and chooses to cast a ballot or claimed citizenship falsely is breaking the law. We cannot and will not allow that to stand."
