They Had to Leave Home at Night | Life in Iceland

At eleven at night on November 10, 2023, Grindavík was ordered to evacuate. Families left homes, work and familiar streets as the ground changed beneath the town.

This documentary follows that historical evacuation and explores the wider life of Iceland: geothermal heat, fishing communities, weather, glaciers, rescue teams and the decisions behind the famous landscape. It does not present old restrictions as current travel advice or suggest that all of Iceland was evacuated.
