For over 100 years, Skilsaw helped build American homes. Then Bosch sold the iconic American power tool brand to Chervon, a Chinese manufacturer that had already been working with the German giant for years.
Born in 1924, Skilsaw became one of the most recognizable names on American construction sites. Its legendary Model 77 circular saw helped shape generations of homes. But in 2016, Bosch agreed to sell SKIL and SKILSAW to Chervon, a company based in Nanjing, China. The deal was completed in 2017.
And the story goes far beyond one saw.
According to Chervon, it had been manufacturing tools for Bosch since 2003. The companies formed a joint venture in 2007. Today, Chervon owns SKIL, SKILSAW, FLEX, and EGO Power+, whose 56V batteries even power John Deere's Z370RS electric zero-turn mower.
In September 2026, Chervon made another surprising move: appointing Joseph Galli Jr., the executive who helped launch DeWalt and expand Milwaukee and Ryobi, as its new CEO.
In this documentary, we explore how an American invention became a global power tool brand, why Bosch sold it to its Chinese partner, and what the deal reveals about the changing power tool industry.
