For nearly three thousand years, the Trojan War and the Odyssey have stood at the heart of Western storytelling. Composed by the Greek poet Homer around the eighth century BC, they tell of the ten-year siege of Troy, brought about by the abduction of Helen and ending in the fall of a great city, and of the long and impossible journey home that followed for Odysseus, the cleverest of the Greeks.
In this video, we tell both stories in full, and for the first time in chronological order. From the judgement of Paris and the launching of a thousand ships, to the rage of Achilles, the death of Hector, and the fall of Troy. Then we follow Odysseus on the ten-year voyage that awaited him, through the cave of the Cyclops, past the song of the Sirens, into the halls of Circe and the land of the dead, and finally home to Ithaca, and to the wife and son he had not seen for twenty years.
