Christopher Nolan spent $250 million adapting a 3,000 year old poem, and then he cut the most famous joke in it . The one line that is the entire reason Odysseus survives one of the most popular challenges.
Once you notice that one is missing, you start finding the others. A hanging. A helmet made out of forty dead pigs. A bed. And an ending that isn't Homer's at all. This is what Nolan's The Odyssey changed, cut, softened and invented, measured against the poem whose name is on the poster.
Some of it is defensible. A three hour film cannot hold sixteen hours of poem. But the cuts aren't random, and they all lean the same way...
